Seam 9, CQtober 2024 - Straight Stitch Triads

#CQtober2024
A historic crazy quilt stitch today.  We did straight stitch triads on this seam with some French knots.  I don't think I've ever used this as the primary stitch on a seam before; only as embellishments to a seam. Yet it was commonly used on the early crazy quilts and can be found in stitch guides from the late 1800's.
This is from a booklet produced in 1884 by Mrs. J. L. Patten
You can see triads used on this antique quilt on both the right and on the left.  Some are embellished with French knots as well.

Here on another antique crazy quilt, you can see triads embellishing seams, but there are also groups of 5 straight stitch cluster on the lower central seam.

Yet another crazy quilt with triads as the primary seam stitch.

I was inspired to include this seam treatment in this project by a video I had seen by Shannon Makes on YouTube.  I loved how her project turned out, and loved how she called this stitch, T-Rex tracks!

I was pleased with how this one turned out!  Easy to stitch and a nod to history!

Happy Stitching!
