CQtober 2024 - Day 4, Sheaf Stitch

 #CQtober2024

There is another video up today!  So grateful that the editing program is working as expected and not giving me grief!   Today's stitch is Sheaf Stitch and you can watch the video here.

Minimal supplies today.  Two colors of Valdani Perle Cotton.  The Golden Yellow is a size 8, and the green is a size 12.  I used a doubled thread to for the green today. For needles, I used a size 7 Bohin needle for the size 12 thread and what I think is a size 5 needle for the size 8 thread.

This one stitched up fast!  I think it only took me about 15 to 20 minutes at most.  The biggest challenge for me with this stitch is keeping the three stitches even in length and loose enough to pull together nicely.  When stitching in one color, I usually do the wrapping stitch immediately.  But since I used a second color to wrap with today, I stitched all the straight stitches first, and then went back and did the wrapping stitches.  I could have left my straight stitches a little looser.

When stitching on the cotton velveteen and corduroy, I find I have to exaggerate the stitches a little.  Otherwise, they disappear into the nap/pile of the fabric.  I often found myself thinking that a stitch was too big, but once I pulled the thread through, it was just right. It will look better once the basting is removed, but I'm not going to do that till all the seams are stitched.

Happy stitching!

Fun to see you doing this. I haven't done CQ for quite awhile and actually (gasp) got rid of most of my stash. I kept enough to do a few cards but had to make room for the stash I need for doing landscapes.

Thanks! I'm having fun (mostly! Except for the editing difficulties of last week). Every time I get rid of stash, I seem to end up acquiring replacements. I keep trying to downsize though. Have fun with your landscapes!
