CQtober 2024 - Day 3, Straight Feather Stitch
#CQtober2024
Hallelujah! I was finally able to get a video uploaded for today's seam! You can watch it HERE! What a journey it has been this week trying to figure out what was going wrong. I never did figure it out, but I did delete the program and then reinstalled it. Prayers that it continues to work!
Today's stitch is Straight Feather Stitch. One of my favorites!
For supplies, I used two colors of Valdani Perle Cotton in a size 12 and one in a size 8. I did use a larger needle for the size 8 thread.I stitched the straight feather stitch in an orange variegated, then added straight stitch triads to the ends. At first I tried pistol stitches in-between the straight stitches, but I wasn't happy with how it looked, so I stitched twisted lazy daisies instead that sat in-between the "feathers" and triads. Much better!
The colors could have used a bit more contrast, but I'm using what I have! In all I'm pleased with how it turned out.
I did run into an issue though. When I pieced the block, I turned the edges under and basted them down loosely, then trimmed the basting thread without knotting it. Unfortunately this has allowed some of the fabric pieces to come loose, especially at the corners. So, lesson learned. If I use a similar piecing method in the future, I need to secure the corners a bit better and use either a knot or a back stitch to secure the basting thread.
