CQtober 2024 - October 1 - Fly Stitch
I've been planning to do CQtober 2024 on my YouTube channel, but ran into some issues with the program I use to edit videos. I wish I could tell you exactly what the problem was, but I can't. I uploaded a video on Monday and everything worked normally. When I went to upload the next one on Thursday, I could not get it to export out of the program. I thought I'd skip it and just edit the next video and get it up. But then it wouldn't export either! Despite hours of research and attempts to fix the issue, I still cannot export the videos. So frustrating!
So here I am, back on my blog and I'm going to upload photos of what I've been doing for those who want to stitch along with me.
This is the block I pieced in a whole cloth fashion out of cotton velveteen and corduroy from old clothing. I started piecing from the outside, hand basting the pieces as I went. The block is 20" square and will finish to a cover to fit a 16" pillow form. (Hopefully there will be a piecing video coming soon)
While this is not a sponsored blog post (or the video to come), the threads are all perle cotton gifted to me by Valdani. Their variegated perle cottons are some of my favorite threads to stitch with!
Here is an affiliate link to the size 12 thread assortment they sent me.

The stitch for October 1st is Fly Stitch.

My idea was to start near the center of my block and work my way outwards. I chose threads to contrast yet coordinate with the fabrics, rather than blending in.
I choose a seam and stitched Fly Stitch in an orange Valdani Perle Cotton size 12. I'm so grateful to Valdani for sharing this lovely assortment of threads with me that are perfect for this project!
Next I stitched lazy daisies randomly on the fly stitch. Then I added French knot berries randomly as well.
If you would like to stitch along, please post photos on Facebook or Instagram of your stitching using the hashtag #CQtober2024. We'll be able to search the hashtag and see the results!
