A Change

I bet you all thought I'd be stitching away on my beach scene today. That's what I thought too, but when I got up this morning, I realized that I needed a change! So instead of stitching, I rearranged the living room. I put all my favorite decorating books on the low shelves and was so pleased with the pale colors! I also hung my unfinished painting on the wall. I'm beginning to think I like it this way, though I can see a couple things that need fixing on it.

This wall used to look like this. This photo was taken back around Easter.

I moved the tall shelves to where the TV used to be. Now they no longer block the light like they did in the other spot. And having them there gave me a better spot to put the exercise bike. Hopefully, it will make it easier to use and thus get used more frequently! Behind these shelves is a plain and ugly fireplace that I have blocked off. It is a very inefficient one and drafty with no damper, no mantle and a dirty grey tile surround, so I decided the space was better put to another use. The shelves fit the spot perfectly, like they were made to go there!

The top of the shelves makes a nice display spot, so I put out some of my collection of white ironstone pitchers and couple of plants! I still need to fill the top two shelves with books.

I attempted to take the slipcovers off the chairs to wash them, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not get them off. I've washed them before and put the covers back on when slightly damp as the instructions said to do, but I suspect that they have shrunk somewhat. So rather than washing them, I gave them a very thorough vacuming and fluffed the cushions well. One of these days when I am more ambitious, I may remove them by opening a seam in the back and inserting a zipper.
Ready to work
Now that things have been freshened up a bit, I all set to start stitching! I've gathered the threads, beads and little shells that I'm going to use into a little shaker box to keep them at hand but somewhat organized.
