Christmas Meditation ~ Candles

Light for Christmas

Candles

Another lovely symbol of Christmas is the candle.  From the advent candles that we light on the Sundays leading up to Christmas, to the candles adorning our churches and our homes, they remind us of the true light ~ the light of Christ, which gives us glimpse into the great glory of God the Father.

Candles for Advent

For it is God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:5

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:9

When I sit in darkness,
the Lord will be a light to me.
Micah 7:8b

Wintry Table
Candles at Christmas can remind us that we too are to be light for others.

You are the light of the world.   A city set on a hill cannot be hid.  Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
