A Christmas Miracle ~ The Cardinal Pincushion

Pincushion finished, side 2
When I first pulled the Christmas block out of the unfinished object pile and started working on it, I wasn't sure what I was really going to do with it.  Then the thought occurred that it would make a great pincushion and how wonderful it would be to add an embroidered cardinal to it.  Almost as soon as I started stitching on it, I knew that I wanted to send it to Laurie.  She has been a follower on my blog, almost from the beginning, and leaves lovely comments on nearly every post.  I'm horrible at replying to comments as many of you have probably noticed.  I love the comments though and they mean so much to me, especially Laurie's comments which have brightened many difficult days.

Earlier this week, I emailed Laurie and asked for her address on pretense of wanting to send her a Christmas card.  With address in hand, I wrapped up the pincushion and sent it off with a prayer that it would be a blessing to her.

I never expected the reply that I received this afternoon, which Laurie has kindly allowed me to share with all of you.  I hope that it moves you as much as it does me.

Dear Lisa,
I can't begin to tell you what a privilege it was to receive your beautiful pin cushion today.  I'd like to share this with you.  My mother passed away today, a sad time for me.  When I opened your package, it was such a blessing. You see, cardinals are my mothers favorite bird.  She loved watching them from her window at the feeders, and had a beautiful collection.  So when I saw this, not only was a thrilled to receive your gorgeous handiwork, but it was like a gift spoken to you from the heart, by God himself.

I have a pin of hers that will sit on this cushion.  This is the most precious gift I could have received today, a reminder that God works in mysterious ways through those that love him.  You proved that to me today, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
God Bless You Lisa,
a true friend.

Laurie sent this photo of her mother and her, taken before her mother became ill.

I know you will all join with me in offering our prayers and love to Laurie and her family during this difficult time.

It is amazing how God works:  The still small voice that told me to make the pincushion for Laurie and pushed me to mail it off when I did; that Laurie received it on this day, the day it needed to arrive; that God had a bigger plan for the pincushion than what I had envisioned as simply a small thank you gift.  Instead, it became a true miracle.  What a truly great God we have.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make his face to shine upon you,
and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26

How wonderful (and I do mean full of wonder) that you heard the still small voice and were able to touch another because of your actions. My prayer is that we all learn to listen to Him and then act in His name.

Oh, if only we all learned to listen to His voice and act when He inspires. You blessed more than Laurie, by your actions. Thank you.

Lisa, I found you through Laurie's post. First of all, how beautiful to be used by God in this way and your pin cushion is lovely. I've been going through your blog and added it to my favorites. Your pictures are so crisp and clear and I love your inspiring quotes and where your heart is. Blessings this Sunday, Diane
