Meditations for Christmas ~ December 5, 2012

gifts under the tree
Matthew 7:11
"If you then who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! "

Gifts
Have you read One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Areby Anne Voskamp?  I picked up a copy this summer and started following her blog and website, A Holy Experience.  I have found her writing exquisite and profoundly moving and inspiring.  As a result, during this season of gift giving, I am trying to focus on the many gifts that God has already given me ~ so very many things to be grateful for.

A look at my study today.  When I first looked at this little nook of a room with it's knotty pine walls, I thought I would paint them all white.  Ever since our fire back in 1999, I haven't been able to abide dark rooms.  But the warm walls grew on me and by the time we moved in, I decided to keep them as they were for a while.  As the rest of the house gets painted a brighter white, I find myself retreating to this snug little room.
study
For the first time since I've had a home of my own, I have a dedicated study that isn't shared with sewing/crafting/art stuff.  It's a lovely cozy space with windows on three sides looking out over the yard.  The window to the left overlooks a couple of bird-feeders and the trees and shrubs are always filled with little birds!

inspiration board
My inspiration board is particularly neat right now.  I know it won't remain this way for long.  The paper cut was created by my Aunt Lois.  I've had it tucked away in a box for many years.  How lovely to have it out where I can enjoy it during the Christmas season.

Study
There is even room for a comfy chair in this small room.  The shelves on either side are stuffed full of all my favorite books ~including my collections of books on Beatrix Potter, Tasha Tudor and books by Eric Sloan, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Jane Austen, L.M. Montgomery, George McDonald, Rosamund Pilcher, Diana Gabaldon, and others.  All perfect books for snuggling up in a cozy chair and whiling away the afternoon with!

Comments
